The excitement of a beach holiday is brewing

We are nearing the summer months here is South Africa and I can already feel the excitement of a beach holiday brewing inside of me. With amazing BBQs, beautiful sunsets and quality time with the family on the menu, who would not look forward to a beach break.

I am not sure if any of you know of a little Gem of a place in the Eastern Cape called Kenton-On-Sea. The 6th Wonder of our world – ‘SUNSHINE COAST’ – is part of the Sarah Baartman District in the Eastern Cape, incorporating nine municipal areas, one of which is Ndlambe. Ndlambe begins just south of Alexandria, inland towards the hamlet of Salem past private game farms, towards Grahamstown. Also down to the Indian Ocean at Woody Cape, and up the coast as far as the Great Fish River, its eastern boundary. Included is the village of Bathurst, 10 minutes from Port Alfred. This area forms the heart of the Sunshine Coast.

One thing I am really looking forward to is going crabbing. I am not going to lie to you, to catch these little monsters are not easy, however, I have found a technique that works like a dream.

Sea Crab

Cut a piece stocking (leggings), put a sardine it in, and make it tight and tie your handling to it. Now thats the easy part… now you need to find a place up river that you think they are and drop the sardine and let it float down to the bottom.

When you will feel a little tug, let the crab take the sardine, as you can feel he is walking away, start pulling in slowly. Have someone with a big net ready and as you can spot him, sweep the net up under the crab and voila… – you have a crab 🙂

Not long to go… Really looking forward to the break 🙂
