Guiding big game hunts have to be one of the best experiences i could possibly explain. When a well worked out plan comes together and the end result is a successful hunt nothing can quite beat that feeling.
The whole team has work hard together to make the opportunity happen and the client is ecstatic with his trophy and even more so with the adventure he has been involved in. The team in camp and on the track all know how how happy a client is after a great adventure.
I had the opportunity after a long time of guiding to hunt my own Buffalo Bull. I found an old dagga boy in a small heard and took this 1 horned wonder.
We hunted in our Zimbabwe concession https://www.jwksafaris.com/gonarezhou south of the Gonarezhou national park.
This is truly wild unfenced hunting that you will not be disappointed. I really enjoy hunting in this area and love the vastness and untamed “Africa” feeling.
After a few days of stalking Dagga boys in the thickets we came upon this herd of about 8 animals and my old dagga boy was bringing up the rear as they were grazing and moving, we got into position at about 55m. My 470NE loaded with Peregrine VGR3 500gr bullets hit the bull in the centre of the shoulder. He ran about 800M and we found him in thick Mopani brush, he circled back on his tracks and was waiting in ambush. We snuck up to about 25m and he stood turned to us looking as if the charge was invertible. My next round took him quartering away behind the shoulder as he departed and that finished the business he went done with a long death below 20m further. We walked up cautiously and i was astonished at the bull. I was so in awe i was completely silent for some time.
He measured 23″ from the outer edge of the one horn to the centre of the boss, he could have most likely been a 46 incher with 15″ smooth worn bosses and ears to match the torn up body from countless of encounters with lions and fights with other bulls. An experience no to ever be forgotten. Adriaan and i celebrated that evening around the fire with our good friend Simon and Nixon Dzingai and relived the tale many times
Now i am off to guide a few more buff hunts.
