Accommodation on the Houseboat
- 2 Cabins / with 4 single beds in total (lower deck). Double beds can be arranged.
- 2 Shower rooms, 2 separate toilets (lower deck).
- Most passengers sleep on mattresses under mosquito nets (provided) on the upper deck, 1 toilet (upper deck).
- 18 meter twin hull.
- The boat is powered by two 85 HP Cummins diesel engines
- The boat is registered and licenced to accommodate 15 passengers (12 is a comfortable number) plus a crew of
3 to 4.
The Lower Deck
Consist of boat crew quarters, storerooms, 2 cabins/changing rooms with 4 beds, 2 shower rooms, 2 separate toilets and a fully equipped kitchen, which include electrical appliances, a gas stove,2 fridges and 3 deep freezers.
The Upper Deck
Approximately 75% of the spacious upper deck of the houseboat is under cover and contains a bar with bottle cooler and ice making machine plus the counter doubles as a cozy meal table. Most passengers sleep under
mosquito nets (provided) on the upper deck. Two freezers are situated on the deck and a large gas braai (barbeque cooking) unit complements the cooking facilities and provides sociable meal preparation.
Generators provide 220 Volt electrical power to operate fridges, freezers, a hot water geyser, a washing machine, fans and plug points and charges the batteries to service the 12 Volt lighting system. An inverter ensures that the iPod dock (supplied) and fans work when the generators are switched off.
Two twin hulled tender boats powered by 25HP Mariner outboard motors are towed by the boat to allow access to shallow waters for HUNTING, Fishing plus game and bird viewing.
The Crew – A captain, Professional hunters, a chef and one or two crew members will attend to all your needs depending on the size of your hunting group.
Drinking Water – Bottled drinking water is provided to hunting clients and their guests.
Gratuities are entirely at your discretion and should be related to good service which we are confident you will get on the houseboat.
What to Bring
Clothing – A tracksuit/fleece is useful in the Winter months as the evenings can be chilly, otherwise light clothing, sandals and a large sunhat is ideal. (Only limited laundry can be undertaken by the crew if necessary)
A limited number of basic fishing rods and reels are available for guest use. Each raft is equipped with a worm box, landing net and a keep net. You can bring your own fishing rods, reels, tackle.
There is a small well-equipped first aid box for emergencies but you are advised to bring your personal medications such as antacids, antiseptic ointment, stomach remedies and sunscreen. Mosquito repellent sprays or ointments are essential requirements.
Houseboat Accommodation Prices 2020
Cost of the houseboat per night is 600 USD, this is for the use of the boat per group and not per person, and this fee covers the boat crew and boat hire.
Included in the Boat Hire
Boat and crew (including chef), bedding, linen, mosquito nets, towels, cutlery, crockery, cleaning materials, soap, toilet paper and food & drinks for the crew.
Hunting Costs and Information
The house boat is offered to hunters that wish to hunt in this unique way by using the houseboat on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe; the houseboat is used to patrol the lakeshore of the Omay and adjoining hunting concession of Lake Kariba.
Hunting daily rates are charged in addition to the houseboat hire daily rate, hunters are required to pay an additional 1.250 USD per hunter per day to hunt with us on Lake Kariba, each hunter will have his own PH that will guide his/her hunt on a 1×1 basis, the hunting daily rate includes your PH’s accommodation on the boat and includes land support during the hunt.
Non hunter daily rate is 250 USD per day.
In addition to the houseboat we have a fixed lodge available in the Omay hunting area that hunters will be able to spend a few nights at as they conduct their hunt, the professional hunters will asses this based on the length of the hunt and the species required to be hunted by the clients.
